Biography

Ashraf Mahdy is an academic, artist, and filmmaker with extensive experience in graphic design, animation, and multimedia. He is currently the Head of the Design Department and Director of the Electronic Games Design Program at the Egypt University of Informatics (EUI), and a founding member of the Faculty of Digital Arts and Design. His work bridges visual arts, animation, and cinematic production, with contributions spanning academia, film, and international exhibitions.

  • Ph.D. in Fine Arts (2009) – Focus on the theatrical text as a stimulus for graphic experience
  • Master’s Degree in Graphic Arts (2004) – Focus on the role of graphic art in documenting theatrical arts

  • Director, animator, and writer for numerous animated series and productions (e.g., Sarhan and Irfan, Stories of the Qur’an, Sanouhi)
  • Director and creator of puppet shows, animation films, and educational media content
  • Actor in multiple TV series and films (e.g., Cairo Kabul, Newton’s Game, Under Guardianship)
  • Production and cinematography roles in award-winning films and documentaries
  • Contributor to animation units, workshops, and film festivals across Egypt and internationally

  • Co-founder of the Faculty of Digital Arts and Design at EUI
